MICHAEL LONDESBOROUGH

Michael is a British scientist working at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. He was born in 1978 in London. In 2002, he was awarded Ph.D in chemistry at the University of Leeds. He is now the leader of a research team interested in the chemistry of boron hydrides, their compounds and their uses in microelectronics, photoelectronics and medicine. Michael is the winner (2002, 2003, 2004) of the Czech/Slovak Young Inorganic Chemist award and also the winner of the J B Cohen Prize, awarded by the University of Leeds (2003) for “candidates for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy whose theses have been adjudged to contain the most valuable contribution to knowledge in chemistry.” He initiated and/or participated in many science popularisation activities in collaboration with organisations such as the British Council, Czech Television and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. He is the co-author and presenter of a weekly science program broadcasted on national Czech television called PORT.
In 2009 he was awarded the Vojtěch Náprstek Honorary Medal for popularization of science by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
